Summer Festival

In July 2009 the Summer Festival took place on a day of squally rain and gusts of wind. Many of the gazebos erected for the event were blown down, but in between the weather was pleasant enough. The weather seems to have put off some of the adults, but the children came, and had great fun taking part in the donkey rides, bouncy castle, hoopla, giant jenga, frisbees, 5-in-a-row game, buzz wire. Once again our friends from the Rochester Victorian Society came in all their finery, with their croquet set. The music and entertainment was produced by Kingsdale School, the Cordless Show, Radio Kin, Kingswood Library band, a Children's Band, Carrib Steel band, the acrobat Imanuel the Magnificent, and a poet from the Paxton Green Time Bank.

Victorian Day Saturday 21 February 2009

Our first Victorian day was a great success. About 200 people came. There was something for everyone; chamber music, an exhibition on 'What the Victorians did for Us'; dressing up for children;  the history of Crystal Palace with chunks of masonry and other artefacts to handle; an entertainer for the children; a dinosaur to assemble; a railway bridge to build. This was followed by pie and mash or sausage and mash in the Billiard room; tapestry to have a go at in the Culloden Room; Victorian toys, games, slates to write on and creative activities. Plus a soldier to tell us what it was like to fight in the Crimea.  Next year the Victorian Day will be on Saturday 20 February. If you would like to help make exhibits or help on the Day please e-mail wenlockrj@aol.com
